The
Met Office have issued severe weather warnings covering Friday 3
February and Saturday 4th February for the South West of England. Be
storm ready with our guide!
The
following actions can be taken to limit damage to your home and
belongings:
- Storms
often result in power cuts especially in rural areas, make a storm
kit which includes torches, medication, food, water and blankets
etc.
- Make
sure all windows and doors are shut and locked where possible.
- Place
cars in garages or somewhere they can be protected from flying
debris.
- Secure items outside
your home that could be blown away, such as outdoor furniture, bins
etc
- Keep pets indoors.
- Check that nearby trees
and/or structures are undamaged and are not in danger of being blown
over and damaging your home or presenting a risk to people.
If the wind is already up:
- Take note of warnings and listen in to the local media for any further warnings/emergency information.
- Do not go outside unless it is safe, or it is absolutely essential that you do so.
- Avoid making any repairs until the storm is over.
- Avoid driving unless it is essential. If you must drive, drive slowly and with great care, use your lights to make you more visible.
- Report
downed or damaged power lines to your electricity provider but STAY
AWAY. HIGH VOLTAGES KILL.
